Title: Half
Rating: G
Prompt: #11, race
Words: 218 words
Summary: To them, Marin is nothing more than a Yamani half-breed, and nothing can make her as Tortallan as they are.
-
Marin of Queenscove thinks things at the palace can’t get worse. If it wasn’t for Aunt Kel’s talk about showing them all she deserves her place, and her determination to be a knight, to make some use out of herself since she is a Queenscove without the Gift…
Well.
Hazing has stopped, of course. The training master won’t stand for it. But of course there isn’t hazing, when there are so many ways to torment a yearmate and to break their will and to make them quit.
“You’ll never be one of us.” Tirrsmont says, sneering. Her sponsor steals food from her, and once, she was locked for two hours in a storage closet, until she kicked at the door, screaming, and they let her out because they got bored.
She’s afraid of the cramped dark.
No, it isn’t hazing, because hazing is making the younger pages earn their way.
But what Marin of Queenscove thinks is worse is because it isn’t that she’s a girl. And when Violen of Masbolle tells her that she faces It too, Marin shakes her head, and places two fingers against her golden skin.
Violen may be a female, but she’s Tortallan. To them, Marin is nothing more than a Yamani half-breed, and nothing can make her as Tortallan as they are.
-
Heh. This was me trying to play around with the prompt again, by taking race in a completely different direction xD (I hope it’s allowable, since the prompt said ‘race’.)
Oh, and I'm sorry for spamming >.<
