Title: Troubles of a prince Rating: G Prompt: #28, Freedom Summary: Freedom is the ability to fit in.
In the ways of the nobility there are many hardships, much more that what those of the common people would think, those of the nobility, whether in the book of silver, the book of bronze or even of the book of gold, there are always rules, a way you have to treat others.
The way you speak to your neighbours at a feast, the way you travel, the look on your face, the way you dress, the way you ride, everything you do is controlled by an unspoken law, but the common people, those down in the city they had it different - Prince Roald realizezd - they were not arranged to a princess from a different country, they did not have to have favour with all of the nobles in court, they did not have to smile even if they were tired, they did not have to lie to others to avoid a war, or displeasure from his father.
Sometimes he wished he had the freedom to do as he wished, he had the freedom to say to some people that he hated them, to walk out of the palace in servants clothes and hang around the city and no one would notice him,
For that was truly freedom.

This is great! It's really true, too. And it shows an interesting parallel between Roald and Jon, with Jon having sneaked (snuck?) out of the palace down to the Dancing Dove and pretended to be Johnny.

I know, but i can't really imagine Roald sneaking out like Jon did, he is more of a quiet but constant power, someone who is more responsible - but i can imagine that sometimes he would wish that he could escape.

Yeah, definitely. I can't see him sneaking out either, but I agree that he would sometimes want to.

Great fic! It fits the prompt beautifully, and as Ren said, shows an interesting parallel to Jon.

Royalty do have it pretty hard, don't they? While they have all the things so many don't have, it also works in reverse. Lovely piece!
