Title: If Only for the Night
Rating: G
Prompt: #28, Freedom
Summary: She can escape for a few hours.
Note: I've never been a huge Aly fan, but it doesn't hurt to be a more well-rounded writer.
:::
It was glorious, the sting of wind across her face as she swooped across the sky. She laughed, the musical sound filling the air around her. She was a bird, she was an insect, she was the air herself.
She dove towards the sea far below her, reveling in the adrenaline. A bird began to screech nearby, annoying her to no end. She twisted around, searching for the vexing creature. It was no where to be found. The invisible bird's voice grew in volume, forcing hands upon ears. She shut her eyes, attempting to escape what was perhaps the most terrible noise in all of existance.
The noise stopped, allowing the girl to unclench her body. She opened her eyes and was instantly startled by a bird sitting on her chest. She glared at what must have been the tortuous screamer, who promptly leaned forward and pinched her nose. Howling, the girl launched from her bed, frantically expelling the bird. She cursed the bird for disrupting her giddiness, and prepared to resume her activities.
Suddenly the girl stopped and released a hefty sigh. There was no returning to the land that she had been previously enjoying. She was no bird, she was no mage, she was simply a girl. She was Alianne of Pirate’s Swoop, daughter of the Lioness, the most meddlesome mother in the entire realm.
She was solely a person trapped in a terribly mundane life. People could claim all they wanted that being the Lioness’s daughter entitled her to a life full of excitement, but they were sorely mistaken. There was nothing to fill Aly’s empty days, nothing that pleased both her and her parents.
She trudged back to bed, pulling the blankets around her tightly. She slipped back into her slumber slowly, a smile spreading across her face. She was free now.
But then the servants came, and she was once again trapped.
