Title: Warrior Rating: G Prompt: No. 28 - Freedom Summary: In the swing of her blade, she is free.
-
She is opposite, she is other. He knows something of writing, having spent so much of his life around words. Dry words in documents, words describing crops in the north or droughts in the south, but they are words and he knows them as well as he knows the backs of his hands.
He does not have words to describe her.
He watches her perform a pattern dance one morning, while the light comes in through the window, slanting lines across the floorboards. She dips and weaves, makes the danger her partner, and for a moment he longs to see her in battle.
Gareth of Naxen is a knight, but Keladry of Mindelan is a warrior, and in the swing of her blade he can tell that she is truly free.

This is really neat, because you get the sense that he doesn't want to be her - which is really nice after years of her fearing that she would become him.

This is beautiful - short but powerful, and it's really interesting to see how Gareth views Kel, as he's not a prominent character in her series at all.

Ooh, this is fascinating- I love the bringing in of an unusual character when it comes to PotS, it really brings something more to the fic. Fantastically written.

Strangely insightful. I love that accepting observance from him, and also that bit of admiration. It's refreshing to see that cross-generational interaction without any romantic shades.
