Title: Dancing Lessons
Rating: G
Prompt: #8 strange bedfellows
A/N: I remembered in SotL somewhere it mentioned that the pages were required to have dancing lessons and learn an instrument, so I thought this was an interesting use of the prompt.
Alan of Trebond hated dancing lessons. Raoul and Gary would tease him about it until his face got redder and redder, which made them laugh even harder.
It was alright for big lads like Raoul, but Alan--due to his small stature--often found himself playing the part of the girl in their practise lessons. When he blew his top about it one day, the etiquette master rambled on about the importance of grace and balance and other such nonsense about a knight's duty to be well represented at social functions and appearances. Alan soon found himself in front of Duke Gareth after that particular outburst (the man must have ears in the walls!), but the training master merely gave him a stern word and sent him on his way, a dissapointed look on his face.
At their next dancing lesson, Alan breathed a sigh of relief and satisfaction when the etiquette master informed him he would be taking the male role for the next few lessons. What he hadn't anticipated was being partnered with Ralon of Malven.
Ralon, obviously not pleased with being the girl or having to dance with Alan, took every opportunity to stamp on his partner's feet or pinch him on the arm, an ugly sneer plastered on his face the whole while.
Alan complained to his friends every chance he got, but didn't say a word to either the master of etiquette or Duke Gareth.
At the next lesson, Alan put up with Ralon's bullying ways. With every turn and step, Alan's eyes would glance across to one of his friends--Raoul, Gary, or Jon--and he would struggle to keep a smile off his face.
Ralon deserved what was coming to him.
